Teen Calls 911 to Report Mom’s DUI — From Inside Car

A terrified teenager called the police to report that her mother was driving drunk — from the backseat of the swerving car.

Deborah Miller was driving her 16-year-old daughter and her friends in Roswell, Ga., in late January when the girl noticed that her mother was having trouble keeping the car straight. “She asked her mom several times to pull over,” Roswell Officer Lisa Holland told WSBTV. When Miller refused, her daughter pulled out her cell phone and called 911.

Miller is now facing DUI charges, and her daughter is being hailed a hero. “We have to commend the daughter for calling and reporting this,” Holland said. “She was concerned with her safety and the safety of her mom.”

The brave young person is one of several who have taken matters into their own hands when their parents were at risk. In 2011, a 4-year-old boy from Fort Wayne, Ind., called 911 to tearfully report that his mom Jaime was “sleeping on the stairs” after she fell and became unconscious. Because the emergency dispatcher couldn’t understand the tot, she had him sing his address, then sent help. And in 2010, a 7-year-old Norwalk, Calif., boy hid in the bathroom with his 6-year-old sister and called 911. “There’s some guy that’s gonna kill my mom and dad. Can you come, please?” he begged, ultimately saving his family from a tragic fate.
