New Video Brightens Up Superman's Colors in 'Man of Steel'

Were you one of the many fashion-forward fans who thought Man of Steel’s Supersuit just didn’t pop enough? Some talented techs at VideoLab took it upon themselves to correct one of the dingier aspects of Zack Snyder’s 2013 Superman reboot starring Henry Cavill: Its reliance on a dark — some would say drab — color palette of muted blues and grays. In the video above, we see the results of VideoLab’s color saturation: newly green fields, sparkling blue skies, and a red and blue Supersuit that looks much closer to Christopher Reeve’s classic comic-book-inspired costume.

The narrator of the video assumes that DC Comics and Warner Bros. were trying to keep Man of Steel in line with the grim, gritty aesthetic of their previous superhero triumph, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Of course, gritty makes perfect sense for Batman. But as the video notes in a truth for the comic-book ages, “Superman should fly in blue skies, not gray ones.”
