'Suicide Squad' Brings the Evil Aggression in Latest TV Spot

The build-up to Suicide Squad continues to assault the pop-culture airwaves, this time with the rat-a-tat-tat TV spot above.

Airing during the NBA Finals, the film’s latest small-screen sneak peek doesn’t provide much in the way of new material — save for a brief glimpse of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn maniacally cackling. It’s merely a quick-hit compendium of sights (including of Ben Affleck’s Batman) seen before. Nonetheless, its punchy construction reconfirms that the heavily anticipated supervillain saga is going to be a non-stop barrage of action and one-liners — like the one from Will Smith’s sharpshooting Deadshot, who ends the clip by reminding his fellow criminals, “Don’t forget: We’re the bad guys.”

Jared Leto — he of the dead-rat gifts for his co-stars — didn’t lose sight of his own character’s malevolence while preparing for his role as The Joker. As he recently told Total Film:

“The only villain who may be more infamous is the devil. The Joker is an icon, a legend, the baddest of the bad and seems to be having the most fun. Hard not to be a fan of that…I knew I was going to have to dive deep and go to a place I had never gone before.“

The movie may have just gotten a PG-13 rating — which, rumors to the contrary, was always Warner Bros. and director David Ayer’s plan. But Suicide Squad will still aim to deliver the over-the-top-evil goods when it arrives in theaters on Aug. 5.
