Watch a Clip from 'Stray Dog,' the Vietnam-Vet Doc You'll Absolutely Love

Debra Granik’s patient, immersive, and extraordinarily moving new documentary Stray Dog tells the story of Ron Hall, a Vietnam veteran trying to reconcile his past and figure out his future. Granik — who directed and co-wrote the Oscar-nominated Jennifer Lawrence breakout Winter’s Bone — spent countless hours with Hall, capturing intimates moments such as the one seen in the clip above: In it, the two young sons of Hall’s girlfriend take their first trip from Mexico City to their new home in rural Missouri. They quickly find out that America’s a lot different from how it’s portrayed on TV.

Stray Dog, which premiered at last year’s New York Film Festival, is currently playing in Los Angeles, and expands to other cities soon.
