Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow Reteam on Family Action Movie ‘Powerhouse’
Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment has acquired the family action film, “Powerhouse,” which is based on an original story by “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow.
Emily Carmichael has been tapped to write the script and direct. Trevorrow will produce along with Simon Kinberg.
“We are thrilled to be working with Colin Trevorrow as well as Emily Carmichael, who is one of Hollywood’s emerging, talented young directors,” said Holly Bario, president of production at Amblin Partners. “We look forward to seeing Emily’s creative vision take shape with a truly original story from Colin which has all the signature qualities of an Amblin film.”
Carmichael’s work has screened in competition at Sundance, Tribeca and South by Southwest. After seeing her short film “The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their Meeting,” Trevorrow invited her to visit the set of his Focus Features drama “The Book of Henry,” where they developed the characters who populate the world of “Powerhouse.”
“Emily Carmichael is the next great writer/director of the kind of movies I love,” said Trevorrow. “Her ability to find warmth and humanity in genre storytelling is a superpower in itself.”
Carmichael is represented at Verve and Ginsburg/Daniels. Trevorrow is repped by Verve.
