Stephanie Miller’s ‘Sexy Liberal Comedy Tour’ Set for Election Eve Screenings

Comedian Stephanie Miller and Fathom Events have slated election eve screenings on Nov. 7 at nearly 400 theaters for “Stephanie Miller’s Sexy Liberal Comedy Tour,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Miller is headlining the event, presented by Fathom Events and SM Radio Productions, which will also feature John Fugelsang, Frances Callier, and Angela V. Shelton (aka “Frangela”) in a Nov. 5 performance filmed from the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills. Tickets can be purchased online beginning Friday, with all screenings starting at 7:30 p.m. local time.

“America has spoken,” she said. “The 2016 Republican presidential field and their nominee have officially become so ridiculous that it has created a national comedy state of emergency that only America’s #1 comedy tour, ‘Stephanie Miller’s Sexy Liberal Comedy Tour,’ can answer. We hear your cry USA, and we are on our way!”

Miller is a longtime host of the national radio talk show “The Stephanie Miller Show” and began the “Sexy Liberal” tour in 2011. She’s also the daughter of the late Rep. William Miller, who was Barry Goldwater’s running mate in 1964.

“I can’t imagine what my dad and Barry Goldwater would think of the Republican Party running off the rails like this,” Miller said. “They’ve lowered the bar and the tone at the convention was so ugly, racist, and sexist. There really could not be a bigger contrast between the parties right now — but it really does give comedians a lot of material.”

She launched the tour in 2011 with the notion of giving the word “liberal” a re-definition. “We wanted to prove that it’s sexy to be liberal and the shows have been selling out since,” Miller noted.

Her comedy album “The Best of Stephanie Miller’s Happy Hour, Volume #1,” debuted in 2015 as the top comedy album in America on Amazon, iTunes and Google Play.

“As one of the most widely recognized comedy tours in the country, we’re thrilled to bring audiences a one-of-a-kind comedic experience with some of America’s most talented comedians for their last show of 2016,” Fathom Events VP of Programming Kymberli Frueh said. “It’s the perfect way to release some steam in the form of laughter before going out and rocking the vote on a highly-anticipated election day.”

Fathom, which specializes in presenting live events for theatrical chains, is co-owned by AMC Entertainment, Cinemark Holdings, and Regal Entertainment Group. It screened “Batman: The Killing Joke,” which grossed $3.8 million from showings on Monday and Tuesday.

Other notable titles include “The Sound of Music 50th Anniversary,” “Finding Noah: An Adventure of Faith,” “Ed Sheeran: Jumpers for Goalposts,” and the anti-global warming documentary “Climate Hustle” with Sarah Palin participating in the post-screening discussion.
