'Star Wars' Toy Leak Reveals New 'The Force Awakens' Character (Spoiler!)

Stop reading now if you want to avoid a mild spoiler.

Lucasfilm has been on lockdown. Disney is dribbling out information on a very specific timetable. J.J. Abrams has issued an omertà to his cast and crew. But despite their best efforts, there are still leaks when it comes Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Fortunately most have been relatively minor — a blurry long-lens shot here, a squint-to-see-it photo of a photo there — and now we have another. Thanks to a leaked toy catalog, we have a our first clear look at a hitherto unknown character: Constable Zuvio.

By the looks of his outfit (dig that crazy helmet!), he appears to be one of the desert dwellers of Jakku. By the looks of his crazy eyes and scythe-like weapon, he appears to be an unpleasant sort, perhaps antagonistic to our heroes Rey, Finn, and BB-8. Of course, this is all wild speculation on our part. We have no idea of Zuvio’s allegiances, or if there are other members of his constabulary.

Zuvio is one of the 3.75-inch “build-a-weapon” action figures coming from Hasbro on the so-called Force Friday; Disney has designated Sept. 4 as the day when the first massive wave of The Force Awakens merchandise hits. Many stores will open at midnight to sell a galaxy’s worth of new toys from the likes of Hasbro, Mattel, and Lego. While the Mouse House has done its darndest to keep things under wraps, images of various items — including the requisite action figures, vehicles, weapons, and play sets — have made their way online as the products begin to arrive in stores and more cell-phone-wielding people have access. The Zuvio reveal is the most notable thus far, but we’re sure it won’t be the last.
