'The Force Awakens': 6 Really Weird, Totally Cool, and Super-Mysterious New Creatures We Spotted in the Comic-Con Reel

On Friday night, director J.J. Abrams debuted a new behind-the-scenes reel from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It featured fan favorites (our first glimpse of Carrie Fisher as Leia!) and some super-cool ships (including some downed and damaged TIE Fighters). It also included some creatures who are brand new to the Star Wars universe. We may not know their names, allegiances, or Force skills, but get ready to be obsessed with them!

This maxed-and-relaxed pair — whom we’re guessing are pals with Lupita Nyong’o’s pirate character, though they also could be leftovers from Labyrinth — are totally like, “Oh, there’s new footage from Force Awakens? That’s kinda cool. You know what’s really cool? Actually being in The Force Awakens.”

This fella could be the necks big thing in the Star Wars universe.

We’re not sure what this one’s smoking — could it be the same substance we spotted someone puffing at the Mos Eisley Cantina? No matter what, we like his thumbs-up, chilled-out vibe. If the movie bombs, he could always open a vaping-supply store in Marina Del Rey.

How amazing are these Force Awakens practical effects? This charming, English-accented creature is so life-like, he almost resembles Simon Pegg! Wait — it is Simon Pegg! Apparently, the Shaun of the Dead star got an undercover cameo. But playing what? He’s definitely a desert-dweller of some kind; maybe he leaves flyers advertising Paul on everyone’s speeder bikes?

Woah! It’s like Sid and Marty Krofft made a Minion!

In the clip, this creature makes a deep, creepy robo-voice sound when he speaks. We have no idea what he’s saying, though, as our protocol droid is currently on line for tomorrow’s Batman v Superman panel at Hall H.
