‘Star Trek Beyond’ Trailer: Rihanna Brings Her ‘Sledgehammer’ To The Soundtrack & Imax

UPDATE with Imax release plan for music video: Paramount Pictures has dropped the third trailer for Star Trek Beyond, this time featuring pop superstar Rihanna and her tune “Sledgehammer,” which will appear on the film’s soundtrack. International rollout of STB begins on July 19 with the domestic release to hit warp speed on July 22. The music video for the song, directed byFloria Sigismondi, will debut exclusively in Imax theaters on June 30; it’s the first to be shot entirely with Imax cameras.

The global icon last night teased the new trailer release via social media:

In this installment of the franchise, the crew of the USS Enterprise explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts themselves and everything the Federation stands for to the test. In the video above, Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk discusses daddy issues with Karl Urban’s Bones before the former declares he is making his last report as the chief of the Starship Enterprise. But with Rihanna’s voice pounding over the video, Pine/Kirk later proclaims, “Let’s make some noise.”

Justin Lin directs STB with Idris Elba, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, and the late Anton Yelchin also starring. Paramount last week cancelled a Q&A event with the cast at the Cannes Lions Creativity Festival following the death of Yelchin in an auto accident.

The Par/Skydance pic also recently added Chinese partner Huahua which made a global investment in the film and will help with local marketing. Alibaba Pictures was already in the mix. A China release date has not yet been set.
