'Star Trek Beyond' Final Trailer Rushes Into Action

The whole crew gets a piece of the action in the thrilling new trailer (watch it above) for Star Trek Beyond, in theaters Friday. With Captain Kirk (Chris Pine, sounding more Shatner-esque than ever) at the helm, Sulu (John Cho), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Chekhov (the late Anton Yelchin), Bones (Karl Urban), and even Scotty (Simon Pegg) must summon their courage to do battle with a new alien threat, led by a heavily made-up Idris Elba.

This is the fourth and final trailer for Star Trek Beyond, which picks up from the events of 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness. Six months ago, the initial trailer, set to the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage,” was criticized for making Star Trek look like a slapdash Guardians of the Galaxy knock-off. Subsequent trailers have righted the course, highlighting a character-driven story that pays homage to the classic series.

“The first film was about establishing the characters. The second film was about taking it into a darker place, which was the in vogue thing circa the Batman/Dark Knight era,” Pine told Yahoo Movies during a set visit. “For us, Beyond is re-establishing, especially in the 50th anniversary of the Enterprise, the world of Star Trek, re-establishing why Star Trek is uniquely its own beast. It’s not super-dark like Dark Knight, it’s not super-campy like Guardians of the Galaxy — it’s its own thing.”
