Unusual Auditions of Oscar Stars
Glenn Close, just give up. The 2011 movie "Albert Nobbs" had long been Close's pet project, but she may not have been so fond of it the day she had to audition in 1982 for the stage role as the female disguised as a male butler. Never a fan of tryouts, she stopped herself during the audition and declared to the producers, "I'm boring myself, so I must be boring you. I think I'm going to go home." The rare act of self-realization impressed them enough to bring her back the next day and cast her. For her work in the movie, Close received her sixth Oscar nomination, tying her with Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter as most-nominated actress never to win.
