Sundance Winners and Losers
Sundance Winners and Losers, Napoleon Dynamite
"Napoleon Dynamite" (2004): Fox Searchlight and Warner Independent both wanted a piece of Jared Hess' eccentric essential. When the bidding was said and done, Fox spent $3 million for the distribution rights. The film only cost around $400,000 to make and ended up taking home over $44 million domestically. To get an idea of the hit or miss nature of Sundance, go ahead and compare that to another Sundance dynamite, "Black Dynamite" (2010), which sold for about $2 mill and made just south of $250,000.
