Romero is the father of the modern zombie movie; his 1968 terror classic “Night Of The Living Dead” transformed the walking dead from the cartoon-ish product of hokey voodoo rituals into a slow but unstoppable flesh-eating menace, and nearly every horror story of the last forty years that deals with the dead rising up to dine on the living owes Romero a major debt of influence.
