'Space Jam' Bounces Back Into Theaters for Special 20th Anniversary Screenings
Is Space Jam, the 1996 comedy that paired Michael Jordan with CGI versions of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang, an honest-to-goodness “classic?” That seems like a highly debatable point (to put it mildly), and yet regardless of where it falls on the greatness spectrum, the Joe Pytka-directed film is part of enough moviegoers’ childhood memories to drive it back into theaters next month, when Fathom Events pays tribute to His Airness’ family-friendly big-screen vehicle via a special-event screening.

On Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., and then again on Wed., Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. (all local times), Fathom Events and Warner Bros will screen Space Jam in select theaters to commemorate its 20th anniversary, allowing younger fans to see Jordan and animated pals take on a team of basketball-playing alien adversaries (led by a baddie voiced by Danny DeVito) on the big screen — and, more important, to see Bill Murray steal the show as Jordan’s friend (and, eventually, teammate).

With a long-awaited follow-up starring LeBron James officially in the works, it’s an appropriate time to revisit Space Jam — which will be preceded by a Looney Tunes animated short (“I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat”) at this Fathom Events screening. A Space Jam: 20th Anniversary Edition combo Blu-ray/DVD/digital HD is also scheduled for Nov. 15 release.
