Shailene Woodley Donating Her Hair to Children's Charity

"Spectacular Now" star Shailene Woodley is chopping off her long locks of brown hair this weekend for her role as a teenage cancer patient in the adaptation of John Green's novel, "The Fault In Our Stars" -- and she's making sure it doesn't go to waste.

The actress has announced she is donating her hair to Children With Hair Loss (CWHL), a charity that makes hair replacement accessible to children affected by medically-related hair loss.

"I will be cutting my hair off this coming weekend in order to help morph my physical body into that of the incredible Hazel Grace Lancaster -- and I couldn't be more amped," Woodley wrote on her Tumblr blog. "Not only do I have the opportunity to externally shift my current establishment of self, but I have the blessed gift of donating my long locks to a wonderful organization who will then create a wig for someone in need."

The 21-year-old actress, Green and "Fault in Our Stars" producer Wyck Godfrey are calling upon others to follow in her footsteps by joining the #HairForHazel team.

"Any of you have 8 inches of hair to spare? Or maybe know a friend or family member that does," Woodley's blog continues. "If so, consider JOINING THE #hairforhazel TEAM! I've already got my mom committed, and possibly a few friends as well."

"The Fault in Our Stars" follows Woodley as one of two cancer-stricken teens who strike up a romantic relationship as they face an uncertain future. Ansel Elgort, who also stars alongside Woodley in upcoming young adult sci-fi thriller "Divergent," plays her love interest.
