Science of Jurassic World: Chris Pratt and Jack Horner

The world-famous paleontologist Jack Horner has consulted on all four films in the Jurassic Park franchise, but it appears that not all of his lessons got across to the series’ new leading man, Chris Pratt.

Both Horner and Pratt appeared on the very popular YouTube science series VSauce to discuss the prehistoric monsters that roam (and destroy) the theme park in Jurassic World. In the film, Pratt plays Owen Grady, a dinosaur expert and raptor-trainer, and while he makes a convincing wrangler of CGI beasts, he doesn’t seem to know all that much about them in real life.

Luckily, he had Horner on-hand to explain that raptors actually looked more like birds than lizards, and that, unfortunately, our cars are not powered by dinosaur ghosts.

On the bright side, Pratt does share the world’s enthusiasm for seeing dinosaurs flip out and kill stuff — like box office records.
