Samuel L. Jackson Confirms He Won't Be in 'Captain America: Civil War'

Nick Fury might have come out of the cold during Avengers: Age of Ultron, but don’t expect him to show up in Captain America: Civil War, much to the surprise of Samuel L. Jackson.

“I’m not in Captain America 3,” he told Collider. “I can’t figure that out, but I’m not. I guess I’m still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are.”

For those who’ve seen Age of Ultron, Jackson’s confusion is understandable; by the end of the movie — spoilers for the few of you who haven’t seen it yet — he does appear to be working at the Avengers’ new compound in a similar role to the one he served with S.H.I.E.L.D.. With almost all of the Avengers showing up in Civil War, it is odd that Fury would be nowhere to be found.

It’s possible that Marvel is looking to keep Jackson in hold for bigger projects — perhaps the two-part Avengers: Infinity War movies due in 2018 and 2019 — as the actor has, as he’s pointed out in February, only two movies left on his current contract. Although, as he told Collider, he’d like to change that.

“I’m looking for a contract extension right now, yeah,” he told the website. “I’m looking to re-up.”
