Zack Snyder On Justice League, Solo Movies & Wider DC Universe

Warner Bros’ DC Cinematic Universe began with ‘Man of Steel’, will continue to expand with 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and will fully come together in 2017’s 'Justice League’.

Snyder is the man behind each of these films, and he’s been explaining how everything will connect and each film’s role in the cohesive universe they hope will compete with Marvel’s.

“What we are doing is ground up all the way,” said Snyder as part of an Empire Magazine feature on 'Dawn of Justice’.

“It is one giant story. The first thing we had was the 'Justice League’ concept. The other movies, in a way, have to support that. That is our 'Wonder Woman’, our 'Aquaman’.

"They have their own creative concepts that supports them, but they do serve 'Justice League’ in the coming together of those heroes.”

It’s certainly different to how Marvel Studios started out. With them each film worked from their own hero’s origins and then collectively towards 'Avengers Assemble’. However it is the same as how Marvel is now operating following that success, with 2018 and 2019’s 'Avengers: Infinity War’ the end-game of Phase Three.

There’s more to the DC Universe than Snyder’s films however (thankfully) with David Ayer’s 'Suicide Squad’ already a hit in waiting if reactions to the first trailer are anything to go by.

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s Flash are all getting their own solo movies following 'Justice League: Part One’.

A Green Lantern film (with multiple Green Lanterns), a Batman film with Ben Affleck and a solo Superman movie with Henry Cavill are also in the pipeline.

“I want all the other directors of the other films to be able to stretch their legs and do what they want, but at the same time there is a big interconnected universe,” continued Snyder.

“I have given everyone amazing access to our story, to me, and what we are doing. All the films have like minded conceptual jumping on points.”

'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ will be released on 25 March 2016.
