"The Wolverine" debuted its first trailer on Wednesday after teasing fanboys earlier this week with six seconds of claw-filled action released through Twitter's Vine app.

The latest and more lengthy preview shows Hugh Jackman in full adamantium-enhanced glory as he slices and dices his way through Japan, presumably to find out more about his mysterious past. There's lots of shots of Wolvie going head-to-head with ninja bad guys and explosions aplenty.

In the film, Wolverine goes under the knife in a dangerous operation that will give him his "mortality" back, but also strips him of his regenerative powers.

In addition to Jackman, the film co-stars Tao Okamoto and Will Yun Lee and is directed by James Mangold ("Walk the Line"). Their task will be to recapture the excitement for a character many critics felt was underserved by his previous solo outing, 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

"The Wolverine" opens in theaters on July 26.
