Why Armie Hammer Won’t Play Batman: Henry Cavill

His reason: the guy playing Superman, Henry Cavill.

Hammer, fresh off Disney’s “The Lone Ranger,” will star opposite Cavill in WB’s big screen adaptation of “The Man from UNCLE,” that Guy Ritchie will direct, and told Metro in a new interview: “I think if Henry and I did that film and then a superhero film straight after, people might start to wonder about us …”

But he added that “I’m not actually a big fan of superhero films,” ruling him out of future roles based on Marvel or DC characters. “If you have a guy who is supposed to be invulnerable, then what’s the point?”

Warner Bros. will release its Batman vs. Superman film in summer 2015. “UNCLE” will start production in September. While it does not yet have a release date, WB is eyeing it for late 2014.

Of course there’s also one other thing holding Hammer back from the Dark Knight role: An offer from Warner Bros. and Snyder.
