‘The Whispers’ Ratings Rise In Finale, ‘SYTYCD’ Down, ‘Running Wild’ & ‘Whose Line’ Jump; NBC Wins Night

The Season 1 finale of The Whispers (0.7/2) last night saw blue lights in the sky, a visit to FBI HQ and nuclear detonations – among other things. Still no word yet on whether the summer Amblin TV-produced drama is coming back for a Season 2 but it certainly went out on a bang and a strong note. Up 17% among adults 18-49 from last week, DVR-friendly Whispers hit a 4-week high among the key demo. The show also had its best viewership result in 4-weeks too, with 2.8 million tuning in.

What is perhaps more interesting is that Whispers received very little demo lift from its lead-ins. Bachelor In Paradise (1.5/5) was down the same percentage that Whispers was up while Bachelor In Paradise: After Paradise (1.0/3) was even with its August 24 show.

It was the Las Vegas finals on American Ninja Warrior (2.1/7) last night and the competition show had a win. Matching a 3-year high among the 18-49s, ANW was up 11% over its last original of August 17. Lead-out Running Wild With Bear Grylls (1.3/5) may have an appearance by President Barack Obama coming up, but Monday’s airing with Creed star Michael B. Jordan delivered some double-digit results over last week. Coming off a series low match and NFL preemptions on August 24, Running Wild was up 44% among the demo. All of which saw NBC win the night with a 1.8/6 rating and 5.976 viewers.

Fox’s only offering of the night a 2-hour So You Think You Can Dance. Even a passionate oration on the dance worthiness of hip hop by chief judge Nigel Lythgoe, the show stumbled 11% from last week.

Coming off MLB preemptions in the NYC market last week, The CW saw big gains for its whole night. Matching a season high, Penn & Teller: Fool Us (0.6/2) rose 20% from last week. Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.7/2) soared up 75% to a season high and newbie Significant Mother (0.3/1) was up 50% in the key demo. Overall, The CW was up 19% in total viewers for the night with 1.7 million.

CBS was all encores on Monday.
