A wanted bank robber with dreams of becoming a movie star has been caught after appearing in a low-budget horror movie.

Jason Stange, 44 (pictured above), had been on the run since last year, after he violated his probation by leaving a halfway house in Spokane, Washington, without permission.

But authorities caught up with him last week when a story about the production of the horror movie ’Marla Mae’ appeared in a local Washington newspaper.

He’d robbed a bank and was sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison for armed robbery in 2006, but since breaking the terms of his probation there had been a warrant out for his re-arrest.

It was after the U.S. Marshal Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force spotted Stange in pictures in the paper that they swooped, finding his whereabouts from an Olympia filming location permit application.

He was arrested when he left the film set to buy some cigarettes, officers allowing him to return his costume before taking him back to jail.

According to the film’s producer, Brandon Roberts, Stange showed some impressive skills as an actor, was a ‘great guy’ and had 'really nailed the audition’.

“Everyone really liked him a lot,” he added.

Stange’s role, which was re-written especially for him, was playing a character called Dr Lourdes, a 'deranged’ physician at a pregnancy clinic.

The film, directed by Lisa van Dam-Bates, is set for release next year, Roberts adding that Stange will remain in the movie despite his arrest.
