‘A Walk In The Woods’ Begins Its Labor Day Trek At The Box Office
According to early morning estimates, Broad Green’s Ken Kwapis dramedy A Walk In The Woods opened to an estimated $1.06M at 1,960 theaters in its first day. Projections for the Robert Redford-Nick Nolte movie through the Monday holiday are $8M-$10M.
Broad Green picked up A Walk in the Woods at this year’s Sundance Film Festival for a high seven figure P&A commitment. The film is based on the New York Times bestselling tome by Bill Bryson. Current Rotten Tomatoes score is in the middle at 49%.
Tomorrow, EuropaCorp’s stateside foray into domestic distribution, The Transporter Refueled, will open in about 3,400 theaters. Industry forecasts put the PG-13 film, which cost a reported $22M, at $7M-$8M over four days. Critics are giving the franchise reboot a Rotten Tomatoes of 15% which is the lowest of the four pics; the first 2002 film scored the highest at 53%.
A Walk in the Woods filed behind Universal/Legendary’s Straight Outta Compton yesterday which continued to hold first place with an estimated $1.075M at 3,142 venues. Current domestic B.O. heading into its fourth weekend stands at $137.9M. Sony/Affirm’s faith-based title War Room took third with $850K at 1,135 for a six-day running cume of $14.39M. This weekend the Kendrick brothers feature raises its theater count to 1,300.
