‘The View’ Executive Producer Bill Wolff Out, Candi Carter In
Now that he’s completely re-done the panel of co-hosts for the upcoming season of The View, it can come as a surprise to absolutely no one that the show’s EP Bill Wolff is out. He’s being replaced for now by Candi Carter, who’s joining the show as consulting producer to help launch Season 19. The Oprah Winfrey Show veteran will serve as interim showrunner, working alongside new co-executive producer Brian Teta.

Just last week, ABC News put the finishing touches on the show’s new co-host lineup, announcing Joy Behar is returning when it returns for its 19th season in the fall. In addition to Behar, ABC News confirmed that Candace Cameron Bure and Paula Faris are joining the panel of regular co-hosts on the show. That’s in addition to veteran Whoopi Goldberg and recent hires Raven-Symone and Michelle Collins.
ABC News also made official the show’s deal to bring back former co-host Sherri Shepherd to the series that’s been flailing creatively and ratings-wise, though this time as a lead contributor for the upcoming 19th season. Shepherd is leading a group of contributors that includes Stacey London, Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, Molly Sims, GOP strategist (and CNN contributor, and frequent guest on ABC News’ Sunday Beltway Show This Week) Ana Navarro, announced in this morning’s email, finalizing the stable of contributors to the daytime talker that’s been flopping about creatively and ratings-wise the past couple seasons.
Today’s news comes about one year after Wolff officially was named EP on the series-cum-revolving door. It also comes a couple weeks after ABC News announced veteran Late Show With David Letterman producer Brian Teta had been named co-executive producer for the 19th season. Teta was said to be filling the role previously held by Brian Balthazar, who left in February after a six-month stint amid turmoil in front of and behind the camera on the ABC daytime show. Teta spent 11 years at Late Show With David Letterman, where he was supervising producer, and also has extensive daytime TV experience, having spent several years producing for Ricki Lake, The Montel Williams Show and Judge Hatchett.
In August 2014, when Wolff was named EP of the series after weeks of speculation, the network noted he had been executive producer for MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show and VP Primetime Programming for that cable news network. His credits also include executive producer of MSNBC’s The Situation With Tucker Carlson. Word ABC had hired Wolff to run the show led to speculation it was going in a more political/hard news direction. And, based on the co-host and contributor hires, it appears it has. A few weeks ago Bill Wolff came to me with bittersweet news. After steering the ship at The View for Season 18, he had decided to move on to new opportunities.
We are all enormously grateful to Bill for his incredible leadership in re-launching the show last fall, moving The View staff and set to a new location, welcoming returning friends and new co-hosts to our View family and planning ahead for a terrific Season 19. And Bill was an upbeat, unwavering and steady hand behind the scenes in the control room and on the floor day in and day out. He leaves The View well positioned for even brighter days this fall, and I am personally grateful that over the next few weeks Bill will help ensure a smooth transition and kick off to the new season.
Today Candi Carter joins us as a consulting producer to help launch Season 19. Candi will serve as interim showrunner, working alongside our new co-executive producer Brian Teta. Candi has considerable daytime television experience, best known for her work as a senior producer and supervising producer at The Oprah Winfrey Show for over 15 years. She’s overseen a wide range of programming, from big events and musical performances to fashion and talent shows and surprise reunions. Mostly recently, she launched the Ice T and Coco talk show and executive produced a Hurricane Katrina Anniversary special and breaking news programs for BET.
