Venice Film Fest Extends Deadline for Biennale College Filmlab Initiative
Venice's Biennale College Open for Applications Starting May 8
ROME -- The deadline for Biennale College, the Venice Film Festival’s new film lab initiative, has been extended by two days, until Oct. 24.
Festival organizers said the program, which is designed to help new directors and producers make their first full-length work, has already drawn wide support, so far attracting 381 applications from 34 countries. The applications have been open since August 30. The festival did not say why the deadline was extended.
After the deadline, organizers will select 15 teams of directors and producers and to help them develop their projects. In the end, the top three projects will be screened at the 2013 Venice Film Festival as well as distributed online.
New Venice Artistic Director Alberto Barbera listed the Biennale College as one of the two main innovations introduced since he returned to the world’s oldest film festival in December. The other was the Venice Film Market, which had its inaugural edition at this year’s festival, the 69th edition of the storied event.
The project is being run in collaboration with the Independent Filmmaker Project, the TorinoFilmLab, and the Dubai International Film Festival.
