Variety Wins Three Awards at L.A. Press Club Event

Variety was honored with three awards at the Los Angeles Press Club’s 57th SoCal Journalism Awards on Sunday night.

Senior TV editor Brian Steinberg won for entertainment news or feature for his article “Today’ vs. ‘Good Morning America,’” about the battle to be the top morning news show.

David S. Cohen, Variety’s senior features editor, won for entertainment news or feature in the video category for producing “The Dangerous Art of Aerial Cinematography,” a segment about exploring shooting video from the air. The video was shot by Preston Northrop.

Chris Mihal, creative director; Bailey Franklin, director of photography; and photographer Pari Dukovic won in the portrait category for a cover story about Marion Cotillard.

The SoCal Journalism Awards are determined by journalists representing media organizations across the country instead of the members of the L.A. Press Club itself in order to ensure “fair and impartial judging,” according to the organization.
