Variety Honored at L.A. Press Club Awards
Variety scribes won prizes in the the Entertainment Feature category at the Los Angeles Press Club’s 55th SoCal Journalism Awards on Sunday night.
Reporters Rachel Abrams, Clifford Coonan, Ted Johnson and Andrew Stewart earned first prize for “Great Mall of China.” Stewart also took second place in the category for “B.O. Reality Gets Lost in Perception,” while Abrams and Marc Graser grabbed third for “Movies & Money.”
The awards recognize L.A.-area journos and publications as well as excellence in new and emerging media. The Press Club presented the prizes at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel.
Variety writers were honored in five categories.
Rachel Abrams — Entertainment Journalist, 3rd place
Brian Lowry — Columnist (“Why TV Channels Won’t Sustain Gun Debate”), 3rd place
Timothy M. Gray — Feature/Commentary (“From Kakuma to Cannes”), 2nd place
Ted Johnson — Blog, Individual (“RNC”), 2nd place
