‘Undateable’ Ratings Steady For Live Show, ‘Person Of Interest’ Falls & ‘Forever’ Rises In Finales
With a guest list that included Ed Sheeran, Scrubbers Zach Braff and Donald Faison, Kate Walsh, Dr. Drew Pinsky and Minnie Driver, it was ultimately all about the waxing on the live telecasts of Undateable (1.3/4) last night. The 9 PM 1-hour episode, which did an East Coast live run and a West Coast live run, had May sweeps gimmick written all over it. While it got some traction on Twitter, Undateable was basically steady with the season low of last week’s 30-minute telecast with an 8% rise among adults 18-49. In total viewers, the audience of 4.3 million that live Undateable drew last night is dead even with its April 28 result.
Still, NBC was tied with CBS for the top spot of the night among the key demo with a 1.6/5 rating. The Voice (1.9/7) opened the night with a 14% drop from last week – that’s a series low in early numbers. Coming off last week’s sweep crossover, Chicago Fire (1.6/5) was even with its April 28 show.
Tied for the No. 1 position among adults 18-49, CBS was solidly No. 1 in total viewers with 11.90 million watching. Having the two most watched shows of the night in NCIS (2.0/7), which was also Tuesday’s highest-rated show, and NCIS: New Orleans (1.6/5) with 14.24 million and 13.25 million, gave the network its victory – though the former was even with last week and the latter fell 16% to match a low in preliminary numbers.
With a declining NCIS: NOLA as its lead-in, the real pain was felt on the Season 4 finale of Person Of Interest (1.1/4). While some characters came to their end, there was a big location reveal, and there was a cliffhanger, but finale fell a hard 21% from its April 28 show. That is not only a series low for the show, in early numbers, but compared to the Season 3 finale on May 13 last year, last night’s Person Of Interest crashed 42% in the demo – still, while not renewed yet, the conspiracy series looks likely to be back for at least one more cycle.
A pivotal departure characterized the New Girl (1.1/3) Season 4 finale on Fox last night. Renewed, the Elizabeth Meriweather created comedy also bopped up 9% from last week but dipped 8% from its previous cycler ender of May 6, 2014. The finale of struggling freshman Weird Loners (0.6/2) was even with its April 28 showing while primetime opener Hell’s Kitchen (1.2/4) had a 9% uptick.

With baseball preemptions in Chicago, the ratings for The CW will certainly see some adjustment later, but as they stand right now The Flash (1.4/5) slipped 7% from last week and iZombie (0.7/2) was even.
ABC had a real ride last night with a fall, a plateau and a rise for its lone finale. The fall was for Dancing With The Stars (1.4/5), whose results show stumbled 17% from last week’s 10th Anniversary special and down 25% from Monday’s broadcast. The penultimate episode of Season 2 of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1.5/5) was even with its April 28 show and its The Avengers: Age Of Ultron links. The finale of freshman Forever (1.1/4), which has seen a 70% improvement in ABC’s Tuesday 10 PM performance, had a 10% rise over its last original of April 21. The second season fate of the Ioan Grufford starring series has not been made public yet – so Forever may not always mean forever.
