‘Tyrant’ Season 2 Trailer: “Blood Guarantees Nothing” Bad News For Barry

FX has dropped the Season 2 trailer for Tyrant, the Middle East-set drama that was renewed back in the fall, increasing its order from 10 episodes in Season 1 to 13. The order for the Howard Gordon-produced series was sealed thanks to notable bumps in Live+3 viewing — on a weekly basis, Tyrant averaged 5.1 million total viewers and 2.3 million adults 18-49. That’s a nice lift from, say, the Season 1 finale, which drew 1.51M viewers and a 0.5 rating in Live+Same Day numbers.

Tyrant tells the story of an unassuming American family drawn into the inner workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. In Season 1, Bassam “Barry” Al-Fayeed, the younger son of the dictator, ends a self-imposed 20-year exile to return to his homeland, accompanied by his American wife and children, for his nephew’s wedding. We saw how well that reunion went: He ended the season in the slammer for collaborating with the U.S. in a coup as his older brother looks to seize a chance to grab more power.

Season 2 premieres Tuesday, June 16 at 10 PM.

Gordon serves as executive producer/showunner, along with EPs Glenn Gordon Caron, Chris Kyser, Gideon Raff, Avi Nir and Hugh Fitzpatrick. FX Productions and Fox 21 Television Studios produce.
