Twitter Readying Music Service

Twitter is expected to launch its new music app this weekend just in time for Coachella Music Festival, according to a report in All Things D.

A spokeswoman for Twitter declined to answer any specific questions about the micro-blog's entry into the music discovery game, but pointed TheWrap to a blog post announcing Twitter's acquisition of music discovery site We Are Hunted.

"While we are shutting down wearehunted.com, we will continue to create services that will delight you, as part of the Twitter team," the post reads. "There's no question that Twitter and music go well together. Artists turn to Twitter first to connect with fans, and people share and discover new songs and albums every day. We can't wait to share what we've been working on at Twitter."

A new music app would follow Twitter's entry into video sharing earlier this year with the launch of its Vine service. Earlier this week, Vine became the most popular free app at the Apple Store.

With a sly tip of the hand, Twitter recently launched a new page, music.twitter.com, featuring #music and its emblematic blue bird.
