TV Associate Director Aviva Jacobs Dies at 60

Aviva Jacobs, an associate director on daytime TV shows and sitcoms, died July 12 of cancer. She was 60.

A native of Skokie, Ill., who attended Boston University, Jacobs got a job at CBS’ Black Rock building in New York and eventually became associate director of the soap opera Love of Life.

She moved in 1980 to Los Angeles, where she worked as an AD on such shows as Daytime Emmy nominees Superior Court and Family Medical Center as well as on Big Brother Jake for The Family Channel and Parenthood, Malibu, CA and All About Us for NBC.

“Aviva was the kind of AD that most directors can only dream about having by their side,” said Gary Shimokawa, who directed episodes of Big Brother Jake.

After retiring from TV, Jacobs, a resident of Culver City, volunteered as manager of the Friends of the Brentwood Library bookstore.

Jacobs is survived by her sister Nehama, her brothers Michael and Jonathan and her niece Alixandra. No funeral service is planned.
