Tribeca Film Takes North American Rights to ‘S#x Acts’

Tribeca Film, the Gotham-based distribution arm of the same company that runs the Tribeca Film Festival, has snagged North American rights to “S#x Acts,” the Israeli film that played the Tribeca fest earlier this year under the title “Six Acts.”

The movie, directed by Jonathan Gurfinkel and penned by Rona Segel, follows a teen (Sivan Levy) as she hooks up with a series of popular guys in an attempt to raise her social status. Last year the pic won awards for actress, script and debut feature at the Haifa Intl. Film Festival’s Israeli Film Competition, and went on to play Donostia-San Sebastian and Tribeca, where the movie had its North American bow.

Tribeca’s multiplatform release strategy for “S#x Acts” will see the film hit VOD and digital outlets Oct. 22 just before a theatrical release planned for Oct. 25. Distribution deal was pacted by Tribeca FIlm’s Nick Savva with Film Distribution’s Nicholas Brigaud-Robert.

Distributor Tribeca Film is loosely affiliated with the Tribeca fest but operates largely independently from it, picking up movies beyond those that had a slot at festival. “S#x Acts” joins a Tribeca slate that also “How to Make Money Selling Drugs” as well as Sam Rockwell topliner “A Single Shot” and “The Broken Circle Breakdown.”
