Tribeca Film Buys U.S. Rights to 'The Broken Circle Breakdown'

Tribeca Film has acquired all U.S. rights to director Felix van Groeningen's "The Broken Circle Breakdown" and plans to release the Flemish drama in late 2013.

The film recently competed at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival, where it won an award for its screenplay. Tribeca plans to eventually release it on various on-demand platforms.

The film follows the love story between a tattoo shop owner and a banjo player in a bluegrass band. Despite a shared appreciation for American culture, their relationship is tested by an unexpected tragedy.

"Through flashbacks and flash-forwards, director van Groeningen seamlessly weaves a tapestry, detailing the story of a marriage and the pleasure and tragedy of being alive," said Geoffrey Gilmore, chief creative officer of Tribeca Enterprises.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
