Tom Cruise To Jon Stewart: ‘M:I-6′ Is Already In The Works
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation opens Friday, but with rave reviews piling up, Tom Cruise and company don’t want to waste any time getting started on M:I-6. “We’re starting to work on it now,” Cruise told Stewart last night on The Daily Show. “We’ll probably start shooting it next summer.” (See video above.)
Assuming that a script, director and supporting cast come together quickly, this means that the sixth movie in the series would appear to be on course to follow its predecessor sooner than has been the case in the past.
It’s been 3 1/2 years since Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which suggests that a fast start on MI6 would amount to a challenge equal to the franchise’s name. Mission: Impossible II followed the first installment (released in 1996) by four years. No. 3 made it to theaters 6 years later and Ghost Protocol took 5 1/2 years.
Still, with a franchise this valuable — $2.1B and counting and Rogue Nation looking like a potential juggernaut, Paramount and Cruise have plenty of motivation to maintain forward momentum. No matter how impossible that challenge might seem.
