Tobey Maguire’s Material Pictures Gains Financier, Hires VP Production

LOS ANGELES, CA, MARCH 28, 2013 – Tobey Maguire’s Material Pictures has secured independent financing to expand the production company. Richard Weinberg joins as a financial partner as Material Pictures hires Ben Tierney as Vice President of Production and promotes Anastasiya Kukhtareva to Creative Executive. Tierney and Kukhtareva will report to Material Pictures’ SVP of Production, Matthew Plouffe.

“This is an exciting time for Material Pictures,” said Weinberg. “There is a really strong slate of projects in development and a talented team of executives and filmmakers at the helm.”

Said Tierney, “I couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity to work with everyone at the company. Material is a unique place with a real perspective on the kinds of stories they are looking to tell.”

“I’m thrilled to welcome Rich and Ben into the fold,” said Maguire. “Alongside Anastasiya, I feel like we’ve assembled a great team to lead Material Pictures into its next chapter.”

Material Pictures is scheduled to begin production on Henrik Ruben Genz’s (Terribly Happy) GOOD PEOPLE, based on the novel by Marcus Sakey, starring James Franco. On deck is Ed Zwick’s PAWN SACRIFICE from a script penned by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) and Compliance director Craig Zobel’s Z FOR ZACHARIAH, an adaptation of Robert C. O’Brien’s acclaimed science fiction novel by screenwriter Nissar Modi.

Also in development are the sprawling sci-fi feature ROBOTECH based on the popular television series to be directed by Nic Mathieu; CARDBOARD, based on the graphic novel by Doug TenNapel being developed in partnership with Chris Wedge’s WedgeWorks; and an UNTITLED ANIMAL TRAFFICKING PROJECT for Warner Bros., with Leonardo Dicaprio’s Appian Way and Tom Hardy’s Executive Options also producing.

In 2012, Material Pictures produced Rock of Ages, based on the original Broadway show, written by Chris D’Arienzo and directed by Adam Shankman. The company previously released Screen Gems’ Country Strong written and directed by Shana Feste and starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw. Maguire’s first outing as a producer was the big-screen adaptation of David Benioff’s novel The 25th Hour for the Walt Disney Company. The critically-acclaimed film was directed by Spike Lee and stars Ed Norton.

Richard Weinberg has a background in business and is CEO of Terrace Tower Group, a diversified Investment Company. The group’s expertise covers acquisition, development, financing, leasing and management. Weinberg has been active in diversifying the Group’s asset and investment base.

Ben Tierney was most recently a Creative Executive at Johnny Depp’s company, Infinitum Nihil for over four years where he developed projects such as The Vault (at GK Films), Tom’s Dad with Lasse Hallstrom attached to direct, Nicholas Meyer’s The Crook Factory, and the Untitled Steve Pink/Jeff Morris Project that was recently

acquired by Disney as a pitch.

Maguire will next be seen starring in Baz Luhrmann’s highly anticipated film, The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. Warner Bros. will release the film May 10, 2013
