The Lobster: Colin Farrell Stars In Trailer For Weirdest-Looking Film Of The Year

The first trailer for ‘The Lobster’, the new film from Yorgos Lanthimos, has arrived and it’s weird - very weird - but we love it.

Billed as “an unconventional love story”, the trailer boasts weird exchanges like “And the dog?” “This is my brother, he was here a couple of years ago but he didn’t make it,” giving you the clearest hints that this is no run of the mill rom com.

From the director of the critically-acclaimed Greek drama ‘Dogtooth’ which won the Prix Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 2009, the similarly idiosyncratic ‘The Lobster’ is set in a near future world where single people are sent to country retreat where they must find love within 45 days or they’re turned into an animal of their choice.

Colin Farrell’s lovelorn David has decided he wants to be a lobster if he fails in his love quest, but when he arrives at The Hotel and meets Rachel Weisz’s character it looks like he may avoid his crustacean-based fate.

Farrell who gained 40lbs for the film by drinking melted ice cream and eating cheeseburgers for breakfast, says he gasped at his transformation when he first watched the film.

Boasting a starry cast including Rachel Weisz, Léa Seydoux, John C Reilly, Ben Whishaw, Olivia Colman and Michael Smiley, it looks like ‘The Lobster’ could be one of the weirdest mainstream films to hit cinemas in 2015.

‘The Lobster’ is coming to cinemas on 16 October.
