‘Sylvia’, With Matthew Broderick, Will Shutter Early On Broadway
Sylvia, the A.R. Gurney comedy in which Matthew Broderick plays a man in mid-life crisis who falls in love with an adoring talking dog, will end its Broadway run a few weeks earlier than planned. Blame middling reviews for the coming-of-middle-age play and poor ticket sales, despite strong upbeat notices for Tony winner Annaleigh Ashford in the title role. The show will close after the performance on Sunday, January 3, having played 79 performances and 27 previews at the Shubert Organization’s Cort Theatre. It had been scheduled to run through the end of January.
