Swedish Film Institute Backs ‘Flocking,’ ‘False Witness’
Swedish helmer Beata Gardeler, who earned a Guldbagge award nomination and the Novella Film nod at Goteborg Intl. film festival for her debut “In Your Veins,” is on board to direct her sophomore feature, “Flocking.”
The drama, which is one of the projects selected by the Swedish Film Institute to receive funding, tells the tale of a 15-year-old Jennifer who accuses a boy in her class of raping her. As the girl and her parents face the judgment of her community, they become entangled in a dark downward spiral.
The film explores the mechanisms of mob mentality, according to the Swedish Film Institute (SFI). It’s penned by Emma Brostrom and produced by Annika Hellstrom and Agneta Fagerstrom Olsson at 2afilm AB.
Other recipients of the SFI production funding include “False Witness,” Iglika Triffonova’s drama shedding light on the Balkans conflict and the subsequent Hague tribunal. The movie centers on the true story of a Serbian officer who was accused of the massacre of Bosnian Muslim civilians and a young boy who is a key witness.
“Eat Sleep Die” thesp Nermina Lukac, who was named Sweden’s Shooting Star at last year’s Berlinale, stars opposite Samuel Froler.
