Sundance 2013: Alfred Molina, Michael Gambon Join Ira Sachs' 'Love Is Strange'
Alfred Molina and Michael Gambon have joined the cast of Ira Sachs' upcoming film "Life Is Strange," Parts & Labor said Friday at Sundance.
In the film, which begins production in New York City this summer, Gambon and Molina play a gay couple who wed after 28 years, and find their lives turned upside-down when one of them loses his job as a choir director at a Catholic high school. Unable to pay their rent, the two move in separately with a nephew's family and a pair of gay cops.
"Forty Shades of Blue" director Sachs called "Love is Strange" his "first pure love story." "In the wake of the personal events depicted in [his 2012 film] 'Keep the Lights On,' I've discovered that all love doesn't have to be so painful," Sachs said. "'Love Is Strange' is my first pure love story, depicting the possibility of love to blossom and grow richer with time. Molina and Gambon will be amazing as the couple at the center of the film, bringing great depth and heart to this highly emotional story, and relationship."
Sachs will serve as a producer on the film, as will Parts & Labor's Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy, along with Lucas Joaquin ("Keep the Lights On," "Beasts of the Southern Wild.")
