Steve Ballmer Bids $1.8 Billion for Clippers: Report
The Clippers are on the block after the NBA imposed a lifetime ban on owner Donald Sterling and is forcing him to sell the team after racist remarks he made became public. Sterling has agreed to let his estranged wife, Shelly, negotiate the sale of the Clippers.
Ballmer, who has a reported net worth of $20 billion, is among several bidders for the Clippers and Shelly Sterling has received offers of between $1 billion and $2 billion, according to Forbes.
Donald Sterling bought the Clippers in 1981 for $12.5 million. The NBA filed charges to terminate Sterling’s ownership of the Clippers last week, and a hearing is set for June 3 at which the league’s board of governors are set to a vote on whether to oust Sterling.
Former Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons has been appointed interim CEO of the Clippers.
