Starz Teams With Sky Atlantic for Arctic Murder Drama 'Fortitude'

Starz is pairing with British network Sky Atlantic to develop "Fortitude," a new drama series from Simon Donald, whose credits include the 2006 TV movie "Low Winter Sun," the network said Monday. The project will mark the first co-production between Starz and Sky Atlantic.

The 13-episode, hour-long drama is set in the Arctic town of Fortitude, which has never experienced a violent crime until the murder of a British research scientist. It touches everyone in the town and threatens its future. Dan Anderssen, the town sheriff, teams with a British detective to search for the killer. As the list of suspects grows, the police begin to mistrust each other.

The series is being produced by Fifty Fathoms and Tiger Aspect, exclusively for Starz in the U.S. and Sky Atlantic in the UK. Anne Mensah and Madonna Baptiste are executive producing for Sky, with Patrick Spence and Donald executive producing for Fifty Fathoms and Tiger Aspect. Colin Callender is executive producing for Starz.

The project is expected to air in late 2014.

A series based on "Low Winter Sun," meanwhile, will air this summer on AMC.
