‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ to be Featured in ‘Disney Infinity 3.0′

The latest edition of Disney’s hit videogame “Infinity” will feature the latest “Star Wars” installment — “The Force Awakens” — and several of the company’s other big film franchises, the company announced just hours after CEO Bob Iger promised a slow and measured rollout of merchandise connected to the film.

“Infinity 3.0 Edition” will have sets from each of the “Star Wars” eras — the original film, its sequels and three prequels, along with features connected to “The Force Awakens,” which does not hit theaters until Christmas Day. The company released video of the new offering, which includes the “Episode VII” content. It suggested a retail price of $64.99.

Disney said the latest version, available to consumers in the fall, has a broader array of content and includes elements from other film properties — Pixar’s “Inside Out,” due for release later this year, and Marvel’s Iron Man, Ultron and other characters.

“’Disney Infinity’ is the only game where fans can play with Disney, Pixar, Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ characters together in one experience,” said James Pitaro, president, Disney Interactive. “We worked closely with Lucasfilm to deliver an authentic ‘Star Wars’ game experience, featuring some of the most iconic stories and characters from the past, present and future.”

The “Star Wars” features in the game will let consumers do battle with lightsabers, the Millennium Falcon and X-wing fighters and expose them to a myriad of characters from across the epic’s generations — including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Darth Vader.

John Blackburn, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Infinity, touted the game’s breadth of offerings, which he said were going for a lower price than in the past. Infinity 3.0 Edition is being developed by Avalanche Software in partnership with Ninja Theory, Sumo Digital, Studio Gobo and United Front Games and works with a variety of gaming platforms.
