Best known for writing “The Amazing Spider-Man” (2012) and its 2014 sequel “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” which together have hauled in almost half of a billion dollars in worldwide box office receipts, Mister Vanderbilt made his silver screen directorial debut last month with the “crisp and fastidious” Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford starring political drama “Truth,” which he also wrote and co-produced. Among a variety of other projects Mister Vanderbilt, on a heavy-duty professional upswing to be sure and indeed a descendent of railroad baron Cornelius “Commodore” Vanderbilt, has been tapped to pen the third installment of money-minting action/sci-fi franchise “Independence Day” and will co-executive produce an upcoming Antoine Fuqua directed documentary about Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight.
Property records show Mister Vanderbilt and his wife, Amber, purchased the sumptuously outfitted and carefully maintained mansion in July of 2009 for $4.6 million and current listing details show the 7,136-square-foot, two-story residence has a total of five bedrooms and five full and two half bathrooms. A grand entrance hall decked out with creamy white floors of an unknown stone material and a curved staircase under a double-height domed ceiling cuts clear through the middle of the house and is flanked by formal living and dining rooms, the former with carved stone mantelpiece and the latter with built-in buffet framed by china and glassware cabinets. A dark-paneled library has built-in bookshelves and, at the rear of the house where it opens out to the backyard, an expensively and extensively equipped center island kitchen fitted with hickory-toned cabinets and slab granite counter tops and back splashes opens to an informal dining space and family room with raised hearth fireplace, built-in media cabinet, and sunken wet bar. Three ample, en suite guest/family bedrooms on the upper floor plus a gym and home office are joined by a commodious master suite complete with fireplace, French doors that open to a private terrace, a generically deluxe bathroom, and an impressive pair of dressing rooms, “hers” lined with creamy white wardrobes and “his” done up in a more masculine manner with dark wood cabinetry and a marble-topped center island dresser. The kitchen/family room opens to a deep loggia with integrated ceiling heaters and overlooks a narrow strip of lawn, a swimming pool and spa backed by terraced gardens, and a trellised pavilion set above the pool that incorporates an outdoor fireplace and built-in grilling station.
This property gossip freely confesses we have zero inside intel about the Vanderbilts’ future real estate plans but iffin we were the wagering type, which we’re not, we’d bet the farm they’re headed towards even more lavish residential circumstances. Whatever the case, property records reveal the couple continues to own a 3,258-square-foot residence on a ridgeline street high above Stone Canyon Reservoir in Bel Air that was purchased by a then still single Mister Vanderbilt in 2002 for $1.075 million.
