‘Spider-Man’ Reboot Eyes ‘Vacation’ Duo to Write

“Vacation” co-directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein are in early talks to write the “Spider-Man” reboot for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios.

The duo had been on the short list of directors for the project, but “Cop Car” helmer Jon Watts was selected instead.

Tom Holland is playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Marisa Tomei will play Aunt May. Holland will make his first appearance next May 3 as the web-slinger in Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War.”

New Line’s update of “Vacation,” starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate, marks the directorial debut for Daley and Goldstein. The comedy, which will open July 29, received strong response when clips were shown to exhibitors in April.

“Spider-Man” will be released July 28, 2017. The superhero film will be set in high school, with Marvel topper Kevin Feige (who is producing along with Amy Pascal) saying that it will have a John Hughes vibe.

Daley and Goldstein’s writing credits include both “Horrible Bosses” movies, “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” and “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.” They are repped by UTA.

The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
