Sony PlayStation’s ‘Powers’ Renewed for Season 2
Sony PlayStation’s first original series “Powers” — a supernatural detective drama based on the graphic comics of the same name — is getting a second season.
The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television, is slated to have its second-season debut in the U.S. in 2016 exclusively on PlayStation.
“Powers” follows the lives of two homicide detectives, played by Sharlto Copley (“District 9″) and Susan Heyward (“The Following”), who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities. Season two will continue to follow the Powers Division team as it confronts corporate-backed superhumans.
The series is based on the comicbook series written by Brian Michael Bendis, published in the early 2000s. “We are so grateful to the PlayStation nation and fans of ‘Powers’ for supporting us and making the second season a reality,” he said.
“The reception to ‘Powers’ has been incredible, and we are thrilled to have successfully launched a platform for original content with the PlayStation gamer in mind,” John Koller, VP of platforms marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America, said in a statement. “We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus, and we’re excited for what’s to come with season two of ‘Powers.’”
The first season of “Powers,” which launched on PlayStation in March, has set records as the most-watched series premiere on PlayStation Network, according to Sony. The company did not release actual numbers. “Powers” is currently free to all PlayStation Plus subscribers.
“Powers” is produced by Jinxworld and Circle of Confusion in association with Sony Pictures Television. Charlie Huston, Remi Aubuchon, Brian Michael Bendis, Michael Avon Oeming, David Engel, Lawrence Mattis, David Alpert and Frank Frattaroli serve as executive producers.
