Ronda Rousey Has A Serious Plan To Become Captain Marvel

Ronda Rousey is taking her acting career very seriously, and her ultimate goal - for now at least - is to play Captain Marvel on the big screen.

Now, the reigning UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion has revealed how she plans to get that very important role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

“I’m really looking forward to doing my first starring role opposite Mark Wahlberg,” Rousey explained in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, referring to Peter Berg action movie ‘Mile 22’.

“Hopefully by the time 'Captain Marvel’ comes around, I will have enough experience and skills in the field for [Marvel Studios] to really seriously consider me.”

Rousey has been a fan favourite to take up the role for a while now, alongside the likes of Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron. Captain Marvel is going to be pivotal character in the MCU with the character set to be crucial to the two-part 'Avengers: Infinity War’ story which starts in 2018.

'Captain Marvel’ will be released between parts one and two of that story, and will likely have strong ties to it. The character, who would be among the film series’ most powerful heroes to date, will also be the first female superhero of Marvel’s to get her own solo movie.

Rousey’s film career has to date consisted of supporting roles like those in 'The Expendables 3’, 'Entourage’ and 'Fast and Furious 7’. However 'Mile 22’ will be a big step for her, and will be followed by a starring role in the remake of 'Roadhouse’.

Her enthusiasm for the role is clear, and it is great to see as a fan, but unless she shows some significant ability as an actress it remains very unlikely Marvel will cast in her such a pivotal role. She is clearly someone driven by her goals, but in this case she may just have to settle for being one of the most fearsome fighters on the planet.

Our pick for Captain Marvel, as of right now, remains 'Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation’s breakout star Rebecca Ferguson. Sorry Ronda.

'Captain Marvel’ is set for release on 9 March 2019.
