Rodrigo Santoro Signs on to Chilean Miner Pic ‘The 33′

Rodrigo Santoro is set to co-star in the Chilean miner pic “The 33″ opposite Antonio Banderas and Juliette Binoche.

Helmed by Patricia Riggen, the film is based on the real-life events surrounding the collapse of the Copiapó gold and copper mine and the subsequent emotional retrieval and triumphant rescue of all 33 miners after 69 days trapped underground in 2010.

Santoro will play the Chilean Minister of Mining.

Mike Medavoy, Robert Katz and Edward McGurn will produce.

Santoro recently wrapped production on the Warner Bros. pic “Focus” and can be seen next in “300: Rise of an Empire.” He is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and ICM Partners.
