‘RocketJump: The Show’ Premiere on Hulu Pushed Back to December

Hulu has delayed the premiere of “RocketJump: The Show,” a documentary series about YouTube filmmaker Freddie Wong and his production team as they create action-comedy short films, by six weeks.

The eight-episode series, produced in association with Lionsgate Television, will now debut Wednesday, Dec. 2, with subsequent episodes to be released on a weekly basis. Originally, “RocketJump: The Show” was slated to bow Oct. 21. Hulu reps did not provide an explanation for why it was delayed.

RocketJump is the digital studio behind YouTube hit series “Video Game High School,” an action-comedy set in a world where pro videogaming is the world’s No. 1 spectator sport which ran for three seasons.

On Hulu, each half-hour episode “RocketJump: The Show” will chronicle the making of the crew’s newest short film, which also will premiere exclusively on the service. Hulu has a one-week exclusive window on the shorts, after which RocketJump plans to distribute them on its popular YouTube channel, which has 7.7 million subscribers.

In addition, Hulu is developing its first original virtual-reality short film, “The Big One,” which will launch as a companion to the RocketJump series. That will be available through Hulu’s forthcoming VR app, which is scheduled to be available on Samsung’s $99 Gear VR headset in November. “The Big One,” about a meteor shower that turns into an apocalyptic nightmare, is being produced by Lionsgate in conjunction with RocketJump and VR startup WEVR.
