Rob Marshall Scoops Up Gotham Co-op

Thanks to observant real estate canary Polly Wannacracker, we learned that Tony- and Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning stage and screen director Rob Marshall and his producer life partner John DeLuca shelled out almost $4.4 million for a carefully renovated co-operative apartment in a desirable prewar boutique building just off lower Fifth Avenue in the swanky heart of New York City’s Greenwich Village. The three-bedroom and two-bathroom apartment carries hefty maintenance fees of more than $3,200 per month, according to marketing materials, and features an entrance gallery that does double duty as a library, with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a living/dining room with classic moldings, a marble-manteled fireplace and French-door access to a small terrace. The separate kitchen is puny by suburban mansion standards but generous for lower Manhattan, and expensively outfitted with flannel Greystone countertops and an immodestly costly imported range that our rudimentary calculations reveal would require a New York state minimum-wage worker more than 777 pre-tax hours to pay for. The smallest bedroom is barely bigger than a prison cell, while the second and much larger bedroom has custom built-in storage, and the master suite, which overlooks a picturesque tree-lined street, has a second wood-burning fireplace and a wardrobe-lined dressing area that links to a compact bathroom with an oversized shower sheathed in marble tiles.

Like many successful and well-heeled New Yorkers, the frequent creative collaborators, who’ve been a couple for more than 30 years, also maintain a multimillion-dollar getaway in the Hamptons — in their case, a one-plus acre pond-front spread in Sagaponack purchased in March 2004 for $4.2 million.
