Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair Reunite at ‘Cruel Intentions’ Musical

Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair, stars of ’90s teen seduction tale “Cruel Intentions,” reunited Thursday in Los Angeles at Rockwell Table & Stage’s “The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions.”

Roger Kumble‘s 1999 pic, based on “Dangerous Liaisons,” catapulted the stars to fame, including then-couple Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, earned Gellar and Blair “Best Kiss” at the MTV Movie Awards and tallied $75 million at the box office.

Kumble, along with his wife, were also in the house. The Thursday night show happened to fall on Kumble’s birthday so during curtain call, a cake was brought out and the cast sang happy birthday with the whole audience.

During the entire show, Witherspoon, Blair and Gellar were singing along to all the songs, reciting lines from the movie, drinking martinis — and of course, taking selfies.

Director Lindsey Rosin tells Variety of a moment that sent the audience into an explosion of cheers. When two of the stage characters, Annette (Molly McCook) and Sebastian (John Krause), sing the song “Torn,” there is a musical break where Annette runs after Sebastian and says “Wait!” grabbing him in for a big kiss. As soon as the actress said her line, Reese repeated “Wait!” very loudly and in character.

The stars of the show, including “Faking It’s” Katie Stevens, met with their muses backstage. Both casts posed for photos, and Witherspoon even brought gifts for the actors in the L.A. show — boxes of candy that she passed out to everyone.

Gellar, who has seen the musical once before, told Rosin on Thursday that the show is “the best thing ever.” Rosin adds, “she also said it was even better the second time around and she liked watching Reese and Selma’s reactions to everything.”

One reaction of note? Gellar and Blair kissing for the cameras, paying homage to their famous scene from the ’90s flick.

Performances are at 8 p.m. every Thursday and Friday, running through July 31.
